Are you compliant with the Oil Storage Regulations?

The Oil Storage Regulations affects anyone that stores more than 200 litres of oil above ground (in one or more containers) at an industrial, commercial or institutional site.

Some simple questions to consider, when you asses your site against the Oil Storage Regulations are as follows:

1. Is the tank situated within a secondary containment system?

2. Is the secondary containment impermeable to water and oil?

3. Is the tank/containment system located or protected so that it cannot be damaged by an impact or a collision?

4. Is the containment system intact and without openings or valves for drainage?

5. Are all valves, filters, sight gauges, vent pipes and taps within the secondary containment system?

6. Are vent pipes, taps and valves arranged so that any oil lost will be retained within the containment system?

7. For a single tank, is the secondary containment at110% of the maximum storage capacity of the tank?

If you’ve answered NO (or Don’t Know) to any of the questions above then your site may not comply with the Oil Storage Regulations.
